And so I finally made it to the Mecca of baseball, the Hall of Fame. I've been imagining it since I was six so it was so strange to finally be standing in the hall. It was kind of a magical moment for me being a baseball fan for so many years. I somehow expected it to be bigger, maybe 30 stories of something? I felt a bit like I was on my first trip to Disney as I walked through the door and the exhibit started with the early history of baseball.
The early uniforms, gloves, and baseballs were amazing artifacts. It's hard to imagine people actually playing with the stuff. As I moved on I was quickly lost in a frenzy of memorabilia and history. My favorites were the old lockers of Babe Ruth, Stan Musial, Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig. The museum was enlightening in areas too- it was emotional to read some of the hate mail sent to Jackie Robinson and Hank Aaron- it gives you a better idea of the day to day struggle that they had to endure.
The women in baseball section was fun too after watching "League of their Own" a thousand times on television. It gives me a greater appreciation for women's baseball history. I personally loved the young girl's little league jersey she sent to the hall of fame after her no-hitter. How awesome that they included it.
